Alice Coltrane – The Carnegie Hall Concert (2-LP Vinyl)
Product Details
Captured just two years after John Coltrane's passing, this 1971 performance documents Alice at a pivotal moment, when she was forging her own deeply spiritual vision while still carrying the weight of a profound legacy. The harpist, organist, and composer had already released landmark records like "A Monastic Trio" and "Ptah, the El Daoud," and the assembled cast here, drawn from the inner circle of avant-garde jazz, reflects the reverence her peers held for her as a bandleader in her own right.
Alice Coltrane - "The Carnegie Hall Concert" / Alice Coltrane's "The Carnegie Hall Concert" is a previously unreleased recording of a historic 1971 concert. The original multi-track recording was commissioned by Impulse but wasn't released at the time. Features an all-star group including Pharoah Sanders, Archie Shepp, Jimmy Garrison, Cecil McBee, Ed Blackwell and others. This was a triple bill placing her in the company of Laura Nyro and The Rascals. Concert produced by Sid Bernstein, who promoted the first Beatles concert in the US. 2 LP.
