Product Details

Released in 1967, "Alice's Restaurant Massacree" became a Thanksgiving ritual for generations of radio listeners, its satirical draft-board monologue landing with particular force during the Vietnam War era. Arlo was just 19 when he recorded it, drawing on the same storytelling tradition his father Woody had perfected, but filtering it through a wry, countercultural sensibility that was entirely his own.

How would you like to be the son of Woody Guthrie? But Arlo carved out a niche for himself with this, his debut album, which features that beloved 18-minute title cut and the lovely Chilling of the Evening.
