Product Details

By 1968, B.B. King was still years away from the mainstream breakthrough that "The Thrill Is Gone" would bring, making the German broadcast captured here a window into a leaner, hungrier moment in his career. The 1973 Stockholm performance catches him on the other side of that crossover, road-tested and commanding. Together, these two documents span one of the most pivotal stretches in blues history.

Broadcasting the Blues: Live from Germany to Sweden celebrates the centenary (1925-2025) of the "King of the Blues" B.B. King and is the first official release of two concerts recorded live for the "Swing In" TV show on January 19, 1968 and broadcast on WDR in Germany, and at the Stockholms Konserthus in Sweden on October 29, 1973 and broadcast on Swedish television (SVT). This is an official release in cooperation with the B. B. King Estate and Reelin' In The Years Productions, and was transferred from the original tapes and restored and mastered by Matthew Lutthans at The Mastering Lab. The 2-CD edition includes a booklet with rare photographs by Philippe Gras, newly commissioned liner notes by author Jean Buzelin, and an interview with modern blues guitar icon Derek Trucks. All tracks previously unissued!
