By the time Johnny Winter recorded *Guitar Slinger* in 1984, he had already weathered addiction, a long commercial wilderness, and a remarkable comeback, arriving at Alligator with something to prove and the chops to back it up. The album marked the beginning of one of the most creatively fertile late-career runs in blues history, pairing his searing Texas slide work with a no-frills production approach that put the guitar exactly where it belonged: front and center.

The first of Grammy Award-winning blues and rock icon Johnny Winter's celebrated Alligator releases, with over 100,000 sold in the U.S. alone. This reissue has one song from the original release removed (Kiss Tomorrow Goodbye), and a previously unreleased track featuring guest James Cotton, "Nothin' But The Devil," added.
