Saint Disruption ft. Oteil Burbridge & Warren Haynes – Anthology (LP Vinyl)
Born from a chance meeting in the Amazon rainforest between Medeski Martin & Wood's John Medeski and scientist-turned-ceremonial folk healer Jeff Firewalker Schmitt, Saint Disruption channels spirit-driven neo-funk through an all-star ensemble of improvisational heavyweights. This anthology collects the collective's most potent transmissions, featuring Allman Brothers Band bassist Oteil Burbridge and Gov't Mule's Warren Haynes alongside contributions from Last Poets founder Umar Bin Hassan and Asheville's finest players.
The project emerged during the pandemic's isolation, when Medeski and Schmitt began trading ideas remotely before convening to capture what American Songwriter described as music that sounds much more like an American street than a rainforest. Saint Disruption draws from Led Zeppelin's weight, James Brown's funk architecture, and Sly & the Family Stone's psychedelic soul—filtered through the telepathic interplay only veterans of the jam band circuit can achieve. The 2022 release of their Warren Haynes-featuring Imagine cover demonstrated the collective's ability to transform familiar material into something entirely new.
For crate diggers seeking the intersection of New Orleans funk, Allman Brothers soul, and avant-garde exploration, Anthology delivers the deep grooves and spiritual intensity that define the modern jam landscape. Relix has championed Medeski's various projects for decades, recognizing the keyboard wizard as one of improvised music's essential voices.
