Mark Hollis and Tim Friese-Greene were already pulling away from the synth-pop pack when they recorded this 1986 set, bringing in a rotating cast of session players and leaning into a live, organic warmth that pointed directly toward the radical deconstructions of *Spirit of Eden* and *Laughing Stock*. Guests including Steve Winwood and David Rhodes helped give the record a textural depth that rewarded repeated listening long after the singles faded from the charts.
The third studio album from Talk Talk, originally released in 1986 and is commonly viewed as a bridge between their earlier, synthesized pop sound and their later, more improvised-based, work. The Colour of Springwent on to become Talk Talk's greatest commercial success. This album is now available on CD.
