Talk Talk – Spirit Of Eden (CD)

Mark Hollis and producer Tim Friese-Greene essentially dissolved Talk Talk's synth-pop identity to build something entirely new here, recording in near-darkness with an ensemble of jazz and classical musicians, capturing improvised performances that were then edited and sculpted into something closer to sacred music than pop. Spirit of Eden is widely credited as a foundational document of post-rock, predating the genre's critical codification by years and influencing a generation of artists who prized atmosphere and silence as much as sound.
