Laid Back arrived in 1973 as Gregg Allman's first real step outside the Allman Brothers Band, and it revealed a deeply Southern soul sensibility that the group setting could only partially contain. Recorded with an orchestra and a cast of Muscle Shoals-caliber players, the album leaned into Gregg's country, gospel, and R&B roots with an intimacy the Brothers' electric thunder rarely allowed.

Gregg Allman’s masterful debut solo studio album LAID BACK has been expanded to a Deluxe Edition on 2CDs with 34 tracks total, including 26 bonus tracks of previously unreleased or rare tracks, or new mixes. All tracks have been newly remastered from stereo sources or newly mixed and mastered from original analog multi-tracks. Early mixes of all 8 songs from the original album are featured alongside the remastered album on disc 1 with demos, outtakes, alternates and a breathtaking solo acoustic live performance of “Melissa” from the Capitol Theatre on April 13, 1974 are showcased on disc 2. The 2CD Deluxe Edition of LAID BACK is further expanded with unreleased photos and 5,000+ word liner notes by John Lynskey.
