Product Details

By 1974, Donald Byrd had already helped redirect Blue Note's sound toward funk and soul, and his partnership with Larry and Fonce Mizell was producing some of the label's most sampled and celebrated work of the decade. The lush, groove-forward arrangements here would later become foundational source material for hip-hop producers, with A Tribe Called Quest among those who drew from this well.

Donald Byrd - "Stepping Into Tomorrow (Blue Note Classic Vinyl Edition)". Donald Byrd's 1974 funk/R&B fusion masterpiece, Stepping Into Tomorrow, was thethird album the trumpet legend made in collaboration with visionary producer Larry Mizell. Featuring the standout title track and "Think Twice," the album became a touchstone for future hip-hop generations and features Gary Bartz, Fonce Mizell, Chuck Rainey, Harvey Mason and others. This stereo Blue Note Classic Vinyl Edition is all-analog, mastered by Kevin Gray from the original master tapes, and pressed on 180g vinyl at Optimal.
