In February, 1999, Darla Records received a charming Valentine's Day love letter with artwork and 4-track cassette tape demo in the mail from Jim James with the very first My Morning Jacket recordings. Early one Sunday morning, I popped the tape in and fell instantly in love. I could not find the accompanying letter with contact info! Chandra soon found it after I raved at her that she must get out of bed come hear what I was hearing. I called Jim and we began to plan the work. Weeks later, after we'd established a track list, including four songs re-recorded in a real studio, and had artwork together for a debut album, I thought to myself, "I really love this. There's nothing like it in the marketplace. I hope it can sell 1500." And the rest is history. - Mr. Darla Limited edition red vinyl 3xLP in triple gatefold with 16 previously unreleased bonus tracks.

Tracklist

Side A

A1. Depends on the dog, no? If his name is Willie Nelson, then you can just forget it. For his 74th solo studio album, the Mount Rushmore-ready American hero, who turned 90 in April, has put together his first-ever bluegrass album. And, no surprise here, it's fantastic. While it's not entirely a leap of faith—its dozen songs are all reworkings of tunes from Nelson's pre-existing catalog— the country legend still manages to inject new life into the arrangements until he has you believing that songs you've heard a thousand times were meant to be played this way all along. Among the most familiar are Nelson staples like "On the Road Again," "Good Hearted Woman" (made famous as a duet with Waylon Jennings) and "Yesterday's Wine," a number that dates back more than 40 years to the same-titled album. Another from that era is "Bloody Mary Morning," a cut Nelson included on an RCA album (his 10th in all) titled Both Sides Now. For the new versions, Nelson employs a sizable team of musicians from outside of his regular circle, save for trusty longtime harmonica man Mickey Raphael. The Red Headed Stranger understands instinctively that his usual loosey-goosey approach to unfurling a song won't work in this more highly structured bluegrass setting, and he's got no problem at all keeping things tighter. For example, we brought Phil together for the first time with the Blind Boys of Alabama, Charlie Musselwhite, G Love, JD Simo and many others new to Phil's community.Dead Blues was a great concept for live shows but I never considered making an album until I met singer Datrian Johnson, one of the most moving singers I've ever worked with. John Medeski brought Datrian into the community and we instantly became friends and collaborators and began recording the songs on Dead Blues Volume 1, reinterpreting the American classics. The tracks feature North Mississippi Alumni Cody Dickinson and Rayfield "Ray Ray" Hollowman, as well as old friends from Memphis, Paul Taylor/New Memphis Colorways also on drums, bass and guitars and Steve Selvidge on Space Funk guitar. Howlin' Wolf was one of the most charismatic and exciting performers in the history of blues music. Standing six feet three inches he was a mountain of a man whose menacing vocal and low down 'n' dirty delivery greatly influenced a whole generation of rockers who followed. Born Chester Burnett, Wolf was one of the most important and influential figures in Chicago Blues through the 1950s. Rougher-edged than Muddy Waters, the intensity of Wolf's performance prompted Sun Records impresario, Sam Phillips, to observe: When I heard Howlin' Wolf, I said: 'This is for me. This is where the soul of man never dies'. This 16-track LP features the bluesman's best-loved songs from the first decade or more of his recording career, comprising songs from his 1951 debut recording for Phillips in Memphis, through to 1962 by which time commercial blues had become focused on the middle-class, white student market as much as it's traditional black roots. Special guests include, The Heartbreakers' Mike Campbell, fast rising roots rocker Marcus King, Americana icon Buddy Miller, Scarlet Rivera of Bob Dylan's Rolling Thunder Review, Chicago blues guitar mainstay Melvin Taylor and Hawaiian ukulele star Jake Shimabukuro. Also on hand are Mayall's longtime dynamic Chicago rhythm section of Greg Rzab on bass guitar and Jay Davenport on drums with Austin's multi-talented and charismatic Carolyn Wonderland on guitar. Recorded at Robby Krieger's (The Doors) Horse Latitudes studio with Grammy nominated Producer Eric Corne, The Sun is Shining Down is Mayall's 5th studio album for Forty Below Records, a fruitful partnership that began with 2014's A Special Life. "I couldn't be happier with the new record," exclaims Mayall. "I can't wait to share it with my fans. Each one of these special guests brings something unique to the album and our team works so well together. I think you can hear that chemistry in the music," raves Mayall. The album explores a range of styles and eclectic instruments. Scarlet Rivera's violin beautifully compliments two Mayall originals, the timely "Got to Find a Better Way" and a spirited reboot of the Mayall classic "Deep Blue Sea". Mike Campbell sounds like a natural born Bluesbreaker on the funky Bernard Allison cut "Chills and Thrills" and Marcus King sizzles throughout the soulful "Can't Take No More," another Mayall original. Buddy Miller's baritone tremolo guitar adds a unique and memorable flair to the Bobby Rush composition "I'm as Good as Gone", while Jake Shimabukuro's electric ukulele is nothing short of astonishing on "One Special Lady". Melvin Taylor proves why he's been wowing Chicago blues audiences for decades on "Hungry and Ready" and "Driving Wheel" and Carolyn Wonderland brilliantly concludes the record with a sensitive moving performance on the title track. As significant as each of these guest turns is, however, they can't overshadow Mayall's own spirited vocals, iconic harmonica and lyrical keyboard work on The Sun is Shining Down. "John shines throughout this album, exuding a joy and gratitude that are infectious. This LP reissue of an album compiled from his recordings in 1951-1952 for RPM label, sub-label of Modern Records and released in 1962 on Crown Records, also a substance of Modern. The album features Willie Johnston on guitar, a rule-breaking mix of primitive delta blues and fancy jazz chords; Willie Steele on drums and unidentified musicians providing unparalleled backing; and Ike Turner on vibrant piano, Wolf barked out wild and tough blues in West Memphis. Although the piano, the guitar and the harmonica were clearly out of tune, the sounds were outstandingly thumping and beautiful - there was no greater shock. Eric Clapton, Stevie Ray Vaughan, and Jimi Hendrix all absorbed his attack, and you can hear exactly why on sessions like these, recorded during his fertile late-70s period when he was still playing with the kind of authority that made younger guitarists stop and take notes.

Born in Indianola, Mississippi in 1923, little Albert Nelson was raised in Forrest City, Arkansas, and taught himself how to play guitar when he was just a child, building his first instrument out of a cigar box. After hearing 78s by such luminaries as Lonnie Johnson and Blind Lemon Jefferson, the young guitarist decided to pursue a career in blues. He moved to Gary, Indiana where he recorded his first disc for Parrot Records, and in 1956 relocated to Missouri where he began playing his signature Gibson Flying V electric guitar, which he named "Lucy". In 1959 he signed to the Bobbin label racking up a num-ber of regional hits before joining Stax Records in the mid-60s and becoming an international star. Following the label's demise, he joined Utopia and later Tomato Re-cords in 1976. Albert stayed at Tomato for seven years releasing the funk and soul-tinged New Orleans Heat in 1978 produced by NOLA legend Allen Toussaint at his Sea-Saint Studios. Leading New Orleans session musi-cians give the songs - which include updates of several of King's earlier classics such as 'Born Under a Bad Sign' and 'I Get Evil' - a real flavour of the Crescent City. Albert King continued to play concerts and festivals throughout America and Europe right up until his sud-den, premature, death after suffering a fatal heart attack in December 1992.

Tracklist

Side A

1. Get Out Of My Life Woman

2. Born Under A Bad Sign (Tomato Recording)

3. The Feeling

4. We All Wanna Boogie

5. The Very Thought Of You

Side B

1. I Got The Blues

2. I Get Evil

3. Angel Of Mercy

4. Flat Tire

UPC: 5060767444610
Label: Charly
Release Date: 7.19.24
Format: LP Vinyl

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/1041/7172/files/packshot-albert-king-new-orleans-heat-uk-lp-vinyl-vinyl-lp-relix.jpg?v=1779364584
