Warren Haynes conceived the Deep End project as a tribute to Allen Woody, the Mule's founding bassist who died in 2000, inviting a rotating cast of friends to fill a role that simply couldn't be replaced by one person. The result is less a conventional studio album than a community document, with each collaborator bringing their own low-end vocabulary to the band's blues-soaked heavy rock.

The Deep End Vol. 2 is the second album culled from these sessions. This album features the bass playing greats: Meshell N'Degeocello, Phil Lesh (Grateful Dead), Les Claypool (Primus), George Por ter, Jr.. (The Meters, Tori Amos) and Dave Schools (Widespread Panic).
