The Greek Theatre in Berkeley was practically a second home for Garcia, and summer nights there had a particular magic that regulars still talk about decades later. Béla Fleck's cameo here is a genuine rarity, a reminder that Garcia's musical friendships crossed every genre boundary, and that any given JGB show could turn into something you'd spend years trying to describe to someone who wasn't there.

GarciaLive Volume Two captures the classic latter-era lineup of the Jerry Garcia Band at the Greek Theatre in Berkeley on August 5, 1990 — featuring Jerry Garcia on guitar and vocals, Melvin Seals on keyboards, John Kahn on bass, David Kemper on drums, and Gloria Jones and Jaclyn LaBranch on backing vocals. Recorded during a fruitful period that also yielded the releases Jerry Garcia Band and How Sweet It Is, the show is a showcase for the JGB at their most fluid and expansive.

Set One moves confidently through "How Sweet It Is," "Forever Young," a brooding "Tears of Rage," and a scorching "Deal." Set Two opens with a special guest appearance by banjo virtuoso Béla Fleck, who kicks things off with a fiery "Midnight Moonlight" and an otherworldly run through Jimmy Cliff's "The Harder They Come," before the band closes the night with a towering "Tangled Up in Blue."
