Before the band became festival headliners and collaborated with Rage Against the Machine's Tom Morello, Chicano Batman was a scrappy Los Angeles quartet blending cumbia, soul, and Brazilian tropicália into something entirely their own. This debut captures the raw, living-room intimacy of those early Eastside LA club nights, when Bardo Martinez and company were still building the psychedelic Latin soul sound that would eventually earn them a devoted following far beyond their hometown.
