Recorded in a matter of weeks and released in January 1969, *Bayou Country* was the record that launched CCR into the stratosphere, introducing "Proud Mary" and "Born on the Bayou" to a generation hungry for something raw and rooted. John Fogerty's swamp-soaked vision had nothing to do with the Bay Area where the band came from, and everything to do with a mythologized South he conjured entirely from imagination.
