Recorded at the Montreux Casino complex in December 1971, Machine Head captured Deep Purple in a state of inspired chaos, the band famously watching the venue burn to the ground before salvaging sessions at the Grand Hotel with a Rolling Stones mobile recording truck. That real-world drama fed directly into the music, giving the album a raw, combustible energy that no amount of studio polish could have manufactured.

No hard rock or heavy metal collection can call itself complete without this 1972 masterpiece that cemented Purple's place in hesher history.
