The circumstances that brought Mad Season together in Seattle in 1994 read like a recovery story as much as a band origin: Layne Staley, Mike McCready, Barrett Martin, and John Baker Saunders were all working through addiction at the same time, and the music they made together carried the full weight of that. *Above* remains one of the most emotionally unguarded documents of the entire grunge era, recorded quickly and honestly, with Staley's voice at a haunting peak.

Above (Deluxe Edition) is a three-disc set comprised of two CDs and one DVD plus a full-color collector's booklet with previously unseen performance photographs and an essay by Barrett Martin reflecting on the lives of Staley and Saunders and the history of the band.
