Merle Haggard arriving on Del McCoury's label wasn't a stretch so much as a homecoming. Bakersfield and bluegrass share deep Appalachian roots, and Haggard had always worn his reverence for traditional acoustic music on his sleeve, long before collaborations like this one made it explicit.

In a career spanning more than 40 years, country music legend Merle Haggard has found a new direction to explore with THE BLUEGRASS SESSIONS. Haggard's first-ever foray into bluegrass - to be released by bluegrass luminary Del McCoury's McCoury Music label - includes some new Haggard penned tunes, several of his favorite hit songs, as well as a few Bluegrass standards. Haggard gathered some of the best pickers in Bluegrass to record with him, and is also joined by Alison Krauss on his classic, "Mama's Hungry Eyes".
