Recorded live in San Francisco in April 1999 with conductor Michael Kamen and the San Francisco Symphony, S&M captured Metallica at a moment when the band pushed their catalog into genuinely unexpected orchestral territory. Kamen's arrangements don't soften the band's edge so much as reframe it, and tracks like "The Call of Ktulu" and "Master of Puppets" hit differently with a full symphony behind them.
Blackened Records is the new label for all of Metallica's repertoire. The audio for this release is identical to the 1999 Elektra counterpart.
