Released in 1977, Aja marked the moment Walter Becker and Donald Fagen stopped making rock records and started making something closer to architectural blueprints for sound. The album's obsessive studio perfectionism drew on a who's who of jazz session players, with Wayne Shorter, Joe Sample, and Victor Feldman among those pulled into the Dan's orbit, yielding a record that earned the Grammy for Album of the Year and never stopped influencing the musicians who came after.
