Recorded at Criteria Studios in Miami and released in 1970, *Idlewild South* captured the Allman Brothers Band in the full bloom of their early power, balancing studio craft with the improvisational fire they were already legendary for on Southern stages. The presence of "In Memory of Elizabeth Reed" and "Midnight Rider" alone would cement its place in the canon, but the whole record breathes like a band discovering exactly what they were capable of.
