Product Details

Released in 1996, Aenima arrived during a moment when alternative metal had grown bloated and self-satisfied, and Tool responded by going deeper, stranger, and more uncompromising than nearly anyone else on a major label dared. The title itself nods to comedian Bill Hicks, a recurring philosophical touchstone for the band, and that irreverent, confrontational worldview runs through every coiled, hypnotic minute of the record.

Tool first bashed the face of rock & roll complacency in '92 with the powerful Opiate EP; their full length, Undertow, followed in 1993, along with a slot on that summer's Lollapalooza tour. As word of their blistering live performance spread, MTV began airing the video for "Sober," which garnered the band Billboard's Best New Artist and Best Hard Rock video awards. Now comes Aenima; produced by Dave Bottrill (Peter Gabriel, King Crimson), the album's 70+ minutes of material will solidify the band's rep as visionary musicians.
