Oakland's Tower of Power came up through the same Bay Area ferment that produced the Dead and Sly Stone, but they carved their own lane with a tightness and punch that influenced generations of funk and soul bands. The Warner Bros. years, stretching through the early-to-mid '70s, captured the band at their commercial peak, when songs like "What Is Hip?" were reshaping what a horn section could do to a groove.

One of the great horn sections in all of pop music made some pretty fine records on their own, and this collection compiles 16 of their best! Includes What Is Hip?; Soul Vaccination; You're Still a Young Man; Down to the Nightclub; So Very Hard to Go; This Time It's Real; Time Will Tell, and more.
