Jerry Garcia - Reflections (Hot Pink LP Vinyl)
Collectible Hot Pink Vinyl - Jerry Garcia's Reflections Album Reissue
Pressed on hot-pink vinyl, Reflections (1976) captures Jerry Garcia's third solo album, recorded during a creative period when he was exploring his own musical identity while building on the energy of the Grateful Dead's Blues for Allah sessions. As Garcia himself noted, the album represents "a continuation of the Blues for Allah groove that we got into—we sort of continued the same energy because we were having a lot of fun doing it." The album is famously "two half-albums in one": four tracks recorded with the Grateful Dead at Ace's Studio (Bob Weir's Mill Valley garage), and four tracks with the newly formed Jerry Garcia Band at His Master's Wheels in San Francisco.
The Dead-backed tracks feature Hunter-Garcia originals that became concert staples: "Might as Well," "They Love Each Other," "Comes a Time," and the delicate "It Must Have Been the Roses." The JGB sessions produced "Mission in the Rain" (a Garcia Band favorite for two decades), Allen Toussaint's "I'll Take a Melody," and additional material featuring John Kahn on bass, Ron Tutt on drums, and the legendary Nicky Hopkins on piano. Garcia's guitar work throughout emphasizes a warm, clean tone and melodic phrasing—less distortion and psychedelic exploration than his Dead sound —with production that gives each instrument its own sonic space.
What makes this hot pink vinyl edition collectible is its pairing of striking visual appeal with one of Garcia's most artistically unified solo statements. Reflections reached #42 on Billboard's album charts and introduced songs that would anchor both Dead and JGB setlists for years. For fans who know Garcia primarily through the Grateful Dead, this album reveals the focused songwriter and bandleader behind the improvisational genius.
