Curiously alien, yet strangely familiar, the band's debut album, Projector, is a product of five teenagers whose love of music touches every part of their lives: their restless anxiety about their futures, and their pent-up frustration with their present-a perspective all too familiar in today's uncertain world.

Tracklist

1. Rain Dance (3:24)

2. Low Era (4:16)

3. Fantasies / Survival (4:29)

4. First World Warrior (3:12)

5. Disco (6:48)

6. Projector (4:27)

7. Exploding House (6:05)

8. Bottle (3:33)

9. Opportunity Is Knocking (5:06)

UPC: 5400863056605
Label: Partisan Records
Release Date: 12.3.21
Format: CD

Brooklyn upstarts who exploded onto the scene behind 2021's *Projector*, Geese spent their rapid rise absorbing the chaos of sudden attention and channeling it into something harder to pin down. *3D Country* pulls from country, noise rock, and art-punk in ways that feel genuinely earned rather than calculated, the sound of a young band trusting their instincts over expectations.

In the summer of 2021, Geese emerged from out of nowhere, sparking a hype cycle unlike anything that had been seen for a young American rock band in recent memory. Suddenly a band that had previously planned to release some music, break up, and go away to college was touring the world. And during this entire process, that very same band everyone was getting to know ceased to exist. On a practical level, Geese are still the group we were introduced to in 2021. But spiritually, Geese have returned as an entirely different prospect. Their new album 3D Country is the sound of a restless, adventurous band redefining themselves. Anyone who has seen Geese live recently might’ve noticed the band adopted a different vibe onstage — more of a volcanic, unpredictable aesthetic. It turns out that wasn’t a flipside to the recordings of Projector, but foreshadowing that there was more to the story. Knowing they were now beyond teenage basement experiments and were instead making something for an audience who would hear it, Geese felt emboldened. “When we were writing Projector it was about narrowing the scope, trying to do more with less,” Gus Green says. “When we started writing for 3D Country we were trying to do a lot more and seeing what worked and what didn’t.” At the same time, they’re well aware of how significant a departure they’ve made. “As music listeners, we all appreciate bands who change over time, and are comfortable with risk,” Cameron Winter adds. It wasn’t necessarily a given that Geese would overhaul their sound, but with age came new adventures and interests. “Maybe the last record was our teenage angst and 3D Country is our newfound twenty-something arrogance,” he quips.

Tracklist

Side A

1. 2122 (3:53)

2. 3D Country (5:12)

3. Cowboy Nudes (2:50)

4. I See Myself (3:00)

5. Undoer (6:59)

Side B

1. Crusades (2:38)

2. Gravity Blues (4:01)

3. Mysterious Love (3:16)

4. Domoto (3:48)

5. Tomorrow's Crusades (4:32)

6. St. Elmo (3:19)

UPC: 5400863090050
Label: Partisan Records
Release Date: 6.23.23
Format: LP Vinyl

Cameron Winter built his reputation as a collaborator and co-conspirator before stepping fully into the foreground, and *Heavy Metal* arrives as a proper statement from an artist who's spent years sharpening his instincts in close quarters with some of indie rock's most restless minds. This album was Fela's full-on sonic revenge on the military regime that attacked and brutalized him and his compound in Lagos twice in 1974. The raids on his Kalakuta Republic were an attempt by the Nigerian police and army to silence Fela. Brought to trial on trumped up charges with no substantive evidence, the court dismissed the case, set him free, and made him an even larger hero to the people of Nigeria. I.T.T. International Thief Thief (1980) was recorded following Afrika 70's disintegration and the formation of Egypt 80. It is one of a quartet of courageous 1979/80 albums completed by V.I.P. (Vagabonds In Power), Authority Stealing and Coffin For Head Of State. In "International Thief Thief," Fela makes highly insulting, personal attacks on former Nigerian president General Obasanjo, and Moshood Abiola, the local chief executive of the multi-national corporations Internal Telephone & Telegraph (ITT) and Decca Records. Obasanjo Fela regarded as a crook, an incompetent and a thug, and held him responsible for the death of his mother following the 1977 sack of Kalakuta. Abiola, he believed, had both cheated him out of royalties and conspired with Decca's London bosses to silence him after the 1977 attack, in order to maintain favourable relations with Obasanjo's regime. Excuse-O isn't just a showcase of Fela's ability to build a groove that could fill a full LP side; it's a masterclass in personal and political criticism wrapped in two exceptional extended grooves. The title track A-side is a jittery rhythm where Fela sings of the many small agitating things that he comes across that could lead to an argument, or if unchecked, escalate to a fistfight; the track culminates in his annoyance of finding another man chatting up a woman he just went to buy a drink for. The B-side is a denunciation of Nigerians' cultural inferiority complex and how the use of "proper English" language affected all aspects of one's life. This pointed commentary on post-colonial life is set in a smoother groove with call-and-response vocals driving the message home. This album marks the moment he moved away from singing exclusively in Yoruba and began to sing more in Pidgin, or as he called it "Broken English," to widen the appeal of his music. Upside Down and Zombie, both released in 1976, were made at the mid-point of an extraordinary three-year purple period during which Fela recorded 24 albums of new material. Upside Down is unusual in that it includes a second lead vocalist, Fela's American friend Sandra Izsadore, who he'd known since touring the US in 1969. Izsadore, a black rights activist, introduced him to the writings of Malcolm X, Angela Davis, Rap Brown, Stokely Carmichael, Huey Newton and other revolutionary thinkers. Fela later credited Izsadore with helping inspire his philosophy of Blackism. Izsadore can take credit for something else, too: she affirmed Fela's use of weed. Fear Not For Man was one of the first albums to be released by Fela following the sacking of his Kalakuta Republic compound by 1,000 soldiers in February 1977. Fela, along with many other Kalakuta residents, was brutally beaten; his mother, then aged 77, was thrown out of a window, fracturing a leg. The army set fire to the compound, destroying six Afrika 70 vehicles, all Fela's master tapes and band equipment, a four-track recording studio, and all the community members' personal belongings. It is doubtful, contrary to some sources, that Fear Not For Man was recorded after the attack - doubt which isn't dispelled by the gruesome front sleeve design, showing blood flowing down Fela's face. His response came later, on albums such as Unknown Soldier (1979) and Coffin For Head Of State (1980); Fela's practice of no longer performing a song live once he had released it on record is the reason for the two/three year gap between the attack and the release of these albums.

Tracklist

1. Fear Not For Man (14:14)

2. Palm Wine Sound (15:25)

UPC: 720841204114
Label: Partisan Records
Release Date: 10.16.15
Format: LP Vinyl

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/1041/7172/files/packshot-fela-kuti-fear-not-for-man-download-included-lp-vinyl-vinyl-lp-relix.jpg?v=1779328063
fela-kuti-confusion-lp-vinyl
Fela Kuti – Confusion (LP Vinyl)

Recorded in 1975, "Confusion" captures Fela Anikulapo Kuti at the peak of his powers as a bandleader and political provocateur, when his Kalakuta Republic commune had become both a creative sanctuary and a direct challenge to Nigeria's military government. Alagbon Close, originally released on the independent Jofabro label in 1974, marks the first full flowering of Afrobeat, as a music and as a principled political philosophy. Instrumentally, the album brings together the several signature elements of Fela's Afrobeat, which had not previously been molded into such a unified, finely-balanced form on record. Lyrically, it is a full-on confrontation with an enforcing power of the Nigerian state: Alagbon Close in Lagos was the headquarters of the Nigerian Criminal Investigation Department. Many of the musical elements which make Alagbon Closeso compelling can be heard on earlier recordings, but on this album, Fela pulled them all together to devastating effect, in the process creating the classic Afrobeat paradigm.

Tracklist

1. Alagbon Close (16:58)

2. I No Get Eye For Back (12:35)

UPC: 720841207115
Label: Partisan Records
Release Date: 10.23.15
Format: LP Vinyl

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/1041/7172/files/packshot-fela-kuti-alagbon-close-download-included-lp-vinyl-vinyl-lp-relix.jpg?v=1779328519
fela-kuti-everything-scatter-lp-vinyl
Fela Kuti – Everything Scatter (LP Vinyl)

Fela Kuti recorded Everything Scatter during a period when his Kalakuta Republic commune had become both a creative sanctuary and a direct political challenge to the Nigerian government. Everything Scatter, originally released in 1975, is one of several masterpieces from early in Fela's mid-1970s purple period. In three extraordinarily productive years, Fela released 20 some albums of new material. The purple period continued up to and immediately beyond the Nigerian army attack of February 1977 which destroyed Fela's self-governing commune, Kalakuta Republic. By the time Everything Scatter was recorded, Fela had put all Afrobeat's key elements in place: the signature rhythms he had developed with drummer Tony Allen; edgy, jousting tenor and rhythm guitars; call and response vocals; fat horn arrangements and extended, jazz-based horn and keyboard solos; politically confrontational lyrics; and, crucially, the Broken English Fela adopted to take his message beyond Yoruba speakers.

Tracklist

1. Everything Scatter (Rere Run) (14:28)

2. Who No Know Go Know

UPC: 720841207313
Label: Partisan Records
Release Date: 10.16.15
Format: LP Vinyl

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/1041/7172/files/packshot-fela-kuti-everything-scatter-vinyl-lp-relix.jpg?v=1779328112
fela-kuti-roforofo-fight-download-included-lp-vinyl
Fela Kuti – Roforofo Fight (LP Vinyl)

Recorded at the peak of Fela's early creative surge, *Roforofo Fight* captures the moment Afrobeat hardened into something genuinely dangerous, politically and musically. By 1972, when Music Of Fela: Roforofo Fight was originally released (on two vinyl albums, Music Of Fela Volume One and Volume Two), Fela was becoming one of the most avidly followed musicians in West Africa. His audience came from among the region's urban poor, the "sufferheads" living in the shanty towns around the major cities, along with growing numbers of students and political dissenters. Fela championed, and sang about the problems of, oppressed and exploited people and denounced the ruling elites lording it over them, with their seemingly endemic corruption and their ready use of violence to crush dissent - and because he generally sang in Broken English rather than Yoruba, and adopted an increasingly pan-Africanist outlook, his message resonated throughout Anglophone Africa. The title track alone runs over 20 minutes, which was exactly the point: Fela's music demanded you sit with the truth.

Vinyl LP pressing includes digital download. Beasts Of No Nation, originally released in 1989, was an indictment of the corruption and repression in post-colonial Africa. The album title cut addressed a variety of targets, each of them, said Fela, guilty of enslaving Africans: the Nigerian regime, the South African apartheid regime of P.W. Botha, Britain's Margaret Thatcher, America's Ronald Reagan, and the ineffectual United Nations. In addition to being vilified in the lyrics, Botha, Thatcher and Reagan are among the political leaders portrayed as beasts and devils on the front sleeve. Almost two decades after his death, vindication has come to Fela Kuti, Africa's musical genius. AfroBeat, his gift to the world, is now an international staple on his own uncompromising terms, social content intact.

Tracklist

1. Beasts Of No Nation (Vocal)

2. Beasts Of No Nation (Instrumental)

UPC: 720841205616
Label: Partisan Records
Release Date: 10.16.15
Format: LP Vinyl

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/1041/7172/files/packshot-fela-kuti-beasts-of-no-nation-download-included-lp-vinyl-vinyl-lp-relix.jpg?v=1779328491
fela-kuti-underground-system-lp-vinyl
Fela Kuti – Underground System (LP Vinyl)

Fela Kuti spent decades as Nigeria's most defiant voice, turning Afrobeat into a weapon against military corruption and colonial legacy. The last album of newly recorded material to be released during Fela's lifetime, 1992's Underground System is an outstanding swansong. While Fela's recorded output slowed up as the '80s progressed - largely as a result of ongoing arrests, beatings and jailings - his final years of recording produced some of his strongest work, notably Teacher Don't Teach Me Nonsense (1986), Beasts Of No Nation (1989), Overtake Don Overtake Overtake (1990) and Underground System. The audio has been restored and remastered from Fela's original Nigerian recordings. The stripped-down lineup makes it one of the most direct windows into Fela's musical thinking, his political consciousness sharpening in real time alongside the grooves.

180 gram vinyl LP pressing. Fela's London Scene, released in 1972, is a top-notch affair, made with a smaller band but one that punches above it's weight. There is no tenor guitarist and no call-and-response choir, though sing-along vocals are a feature of "Egbe Mi O" ("please carry me"). Throughout, Fela's electric piano is gym ripped and razor sharp, and Igo Chico turns in three stirring tenor solos. "Buy Africa," written in 1970, was one of Fela's first politically-informed songs. The lyric was written in support of a government campaign to encourage local industry. "J'Ehin J'Ehin" ("eat teeth eat teeth") is along similar lyric lines as "Shakara." This time Fela is lampooning people who are so greedy that they eat their own teeth. In "Who're You," Fela channels James Brown's vocal style over an angular funk groove. "Fight To Finish" draws on Yoruba folklore to offer advice: once you have started something, be prepared to finish it.

UPC: 720841206415
Label: Partisan Records
Release Date: 10.14.16
Format: LP Vinyl

Tracklist

Side A

1. J'Ehin J'Ehin

2. E Gbe Mi O

Side B

1. Who're You?

2. Buy Africa

3. Fight To Finish!

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/1041/7172/files/packshot-fela-kuti-london-scene-180-gram-lp-vinyl-vinyl-lp-relix.jpg?v=1779327860
geese-3d-country-limited-edition-crystal-clear-lp-vinyl
Geese – 3D Country (Crystal Clear LP Vinyl)

Brooklyn five-piece Geese were barely out of high school when their 2021 debut *Projector* drew comparisons to Talking Heads and Television, but *3D Country* finds them deliberately shedding that post-punk skin for something stranger and harder to pin down, pulling from country, noise rock, and psychedelia in ways that feel genuinely earned rather than calculated. The crystal clear vinyl pressing makes a fitting vessel for an album this sonically restless.

6. St. Elmo (3:19)

UPC: 5400863093112
Label: Partisan Records
Release Date: 6.23.23
Format: LP Vinyl

Beth Orton has spent three decades quietly reshaping what singer-songwriter music can hold, from her early collaborations with the Chemical Brothers and William Orbit to the sparse piano meditations of Weather Alive. Their self-titled debut was the first UK soul album to land on the Billboard Top 200 charts, and Second Time Round placed them back on the US charts.
