Before Stevie Nicks, before "Go Your Own Way," there was a rawer, hungrier band playing Chicago blues with a ferocity that rivaled anything coming out of the American South. Peter Green, Jeremy Spencer, and Danny Kirwan formed one of the most formidable guitar lineups the British Isles ever produced, and these recordings capture that lineup in transition, a band at the crossroads between the music that made them and the pop instincts that would make them enormous.

Fleetwood Mac made it big twice over: first as kings of the late 60's British blues boom. Then secondly as the Rumors era AOR masters. The music on the triple LP Madison Blues is from a pivotal eighteen months in Mac's history as it lost it's original if-it-ain't-blues-we-don't-wanna-know attitude and looked to it's own songwriters - and America's West Coast sound - for inspiration.
