WRD Trio - The Hit (LP)
On vinyl, The Hit captures lightning in a bottle—three bandleaders becoming one ferocious unit. Robert Walter (Greyboy Allstars, Robert Walter's 20th Congress), Eddie Roberts (New Mastersounds, Color Red founder), and Adam Deitch (Lettuce, Break Science) recorded this debut over just two days at Color Red Studios, embracing vintage straight-to-tape techniques with no headphones, minimal overdubs, and the immediacy of musicians feeding off each other in real time.
WRD emerged from festival green room conversations—three Tauruses (birthdays within a week of each other) who recognized kindred spirits and finally found time to record together. "Corner Pocket" and "Bobby's Boogaloo" deliver backdoor funk grooves, while "Meditation" and "Sleep Depraved" push the trio format toward its limits. Critics called it "an organic distillation of Booker T and the MGs, James Brown, and the Meters"—soul-jazz played by musicians who understand that vintage sounds require vintage methods.
