Art Blakey & Jazz Messengers – Free For All (LP Vinyl)
Product Details
Wayne Shorter and Freddie Hubbard were both near the peak of their powers in early 1964, and the tension between Hubbard's blazing attack and Shorter's increasingly angular compositional voice gives this session a coiled intensity that sets it apart from earlier Messengers records. Blakey had always treated his band as a finishing school for jazz's next generation, and the lineup captured here represents one of the most decorated alumni rosters he ever assembled.
Free For All was perhaps Art Blakey & The Jazz Messengers' most potent album. Recorded in February 1964, the music bristled with the charged energy of the civil rights movement with a powerful sextet line-up featuring the great drummer with Wayne Shorter, Freddie Hubbard, Curtis Fuller, Cedar Walton and Reggie Workman. This Blue Note Classic Vinyl Edition is stereo, all-analog, mastered by Kevin Gray from the original master tapes, and pressed on 180g vinyl at Optimal.
