Cal Tjader – Prophet (LP Vinyl)

Cal Tjader spent decades proving that Latin jazz and vibraphonist-led grooves could hit just as hard as anything coming out of New York or Chicago, building a devoted following that crossed genre lines long before that was fashionable. Prophet, recorded for Fantasy in the early '60s, captures him deep in his creative prime, surrounded by the kind of West Coast Latin jazz ensemble that made his San Francisco scene a genuine alternative universe to the East Coast mainstream.
