Drive-By Truckers – The Big To-Do (2-LP Vinyl)
Arriving a year after the sprawling *The Big To-Do* came *Go-Go Boots*, but this is the record where the Truckers sharpened their focus, trading the Southern rock mythology of earlier work for something tighter and more urgent. Patterson Hood and Mike Cooley were writing with a leaner, meaner hand here, and the result sits at a pivotal moment in the band's evolution, bridging the raw ambition of their Athens, Georgia roots with a more disciplined studio confidence. --- *Wait, let me reconsider and be more careful about factual claims. Let me rewrite.* --- By 2010, Patterson Hood and Mike Cooley had built one of American rock's most dependable creative partnerships, the kind where two distinct voices sharpen each other without either one giving ground. *The Big To-Do* finds the full band locked in, with Shonna Tucker's growing presence as a songwriter adding a third dimension to the Truckers' already deep bench of writers.
2010 release, the Truckers' 10th album in an amazing 13-year career. The Big To-Do features 13 new tracks from the Drive-By Truckers and was produced by their long time producer, David Barbe (Sugar, Bettye LaVette). Patterson Hood and Mike Cooley remain the group's chief songwriters, continuing a musical partnership that has lasted over 23 years. Bassist Shonna Tucker flexes her songwriting muscles once again by contributing two original songs to the album. Brad Morgan (drums), John Neff (guitar/pedal steel) and Jay Gonzalez (keyboards) round out the current Drive-By Truckers lineup. This double LP is pressed on 180 gram.
