Originally the soundtrack to an unfinished film of the same name, *Uncle Meat* captures the Mothers of Invention at their most compositionally restless, blending orchestral passages, studio collage, jazz improvisation, and rock in ways that still sound genuinely strange decades later. Zappa's refusal to separate "serious" composition from absurdist comedy is on full display across its sprawling 31 tracks.

Frank Zappa and The Mothers of Invention released this double album in 1969 which was originally developed as "No Commercial Potential" a project which spawned 3 other albums sharing a conceptual connection: "We're Only In It For the Money", "Lumpy Gravy" and "Cruising With Ruben & The Jets".
