The Fall '91 run is widely considered one of the JGB's finest stretches, with Garcia's guitar voice carrying a clarity and emotional directness that longtime followers still talk about. Hornsby had been deep in the Grateful Dead orbit since joining as an unofficial member around 1990, but his appearance here on electric piano alongside Melvin Seals created a keyboard pairing that never happened again in this configuration.

Regarded as one of several standouts from the Jerry Garcia Band's landmark Fall '91 tour, this stop in Hampton, Virginia is certainly worthy of its lore. In addition to all the hallmarks of a quintessential latter-era JGB performance, this night featured a very special guest: Virginia's own Bruce Hornsby, joining on electric piano for the first and only time.

Featuring Jerry Garcia on guitar and vocals, Melvin Seals on keyboards, John Kahn on bass, David Kemper on drums, and Gloria Jones and Jaclyn LaBranch on backing vocals. The setlist is well-balanced throughout — mixing road-tested staples like "How Sweet It Is (To Be Loved by You)" and "The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down" with more recent additions like Van Morrison's "Bright Side of the Road" and a closing "What A Wonderful World." Playing with Hornsby always seemed to ignite a spark in Garcia, and this proved no exception — their potent chemistry fueling lively versions of "Ain't No Bread in the Breadbox," "You Never Can Tell (C'est La Vie)," and a sprawling "Midnight Moonlight."

Pressed to five 180-gram LPs in a limited edition of 7,500, housed in a deluxe clamshell box with new artwork by Graham Yarrington.
