Cash's years at Sun, from 1955 to 1958, were the crucible where everything clicked into place: Luther Perkins' spare, hypnotic boom-chicka-boom guitar, Marshall Grant's upright bass locked in underneath, and that voice, already unmistakable on day one. Hearing the arc from his earliest sides to his final Memphis sessions in a single sitting reveals just how fast he found himself, and how completely he outgrew the room.

Limited transparent violet colored vinyl LP pressing. Unreleased until 1964, six years after Johnny Cash's 1958 departure from Sun Records for Columbia Records, Original Sun Sound of Johnny Cash spans both his first and final recordings for the label. The early "Wide Open Road" shows the singer still under the influence of Hank Williams, but the sardonic, Charlie Rich-penned "Thanks a Lot," from one of his final Sun sessions, finds Cash beholden to no one but himself.
