Miles Davis – Paris Jazz Festival, Salle Pleyel 10/1/1964 (2-LP Vinyl)
Product Details
By October 1964, Miles Davis had assembled what many consider the most telepathic small group in jazz history, with Wayne Shorter's arrival completing a quintet that would spend the next several years quietly dismantling the boundaries of post-bop. Europe, and Paris especially, received this band with a reverence that stood in sharp contrast to the racial hostilities Miles faced at home, a dynamic that visibly loosened the ensemble and pushed their live performances toward something freer and more emotionally unguarded than what they recorded in the studio.
Paris Jazz Festival, Salle Pleyel 10/1/1964 (2 LP) (140g Vinyl/ Blue, White & Red French Flag Inspired Vinyl) (Non-Returnable) This 2LP set captures Miles Davis' Second Great Quintet just as Wayne Shorter completed the group and the band toured Europe. Recorded live in Paris on October 1, 1964 and pressed on blue/white/red French Flag vinyl, the album contains two separate and distinct concerts of the Miles Davis Quintet spread over 2 LPs and the energy and depth of feeling in the transcendent playing hint at the special relationship Miles and the group had with the French nation that embraced them in a way their homeland would not. It contains over 90 minutes of revelatory, unreleased live music featuring Miles backed by the legendary lineup of Wayne Shorter, Herbie Hancock, Ron Carter and Tony Williams. The audio has been lovingly mixed and mastered in the highest quality possible and the LPs are packaged in a gatefold jacket.
