Product Details

Recorded in 1965, *Pastel Blues* captures Nina Simone at her most raw and confrontational, channeling the weight of the civil rights movement into blues and gospel forms that felt both ancient and urgent. Her piano playing here is spare, almost austere, letting the emotional intensity of her voice carry the full burden of each song.

Pastel Blues features "Be My Husband", written by Simone's husband/manager, Andrew Stroud. She sings a cappella, with handclapping and a hi-hat as her only accompaniment. It later retitled "Be Your Husband". Fans of 1999 film "The Thomas Crown Affair" will recognize the timeless "Sinnerman". Also includes Billie Holiday covers, "Tell Me More and More and Then Some" & "Strange Fruit". Verve Acoustic Sounds Series features all-analog, remastered 180-gram vinyl in deluxe gatefold packaging.
