Product Details

Paul Simon wrote most of these songs as a young man playing folk clubs in New York and London, and the stripped-down emotional clarity of that period comes through on every track. Released in early 1966, the album captured a generation grappling with alienation and disconnection, themes that have only grown more resonant in the decades since. The electric reimagining of "The Sound of Silence" that opens the record was a commercial breakthrough, but the quieter moments here are just as enduring.

Limited 180gm vinyl LP pressing including digital download. Sounds of Silence is the second studio album by Simon & Garfunkel, released on January 17, 1966. The album's title is a slight modification of the title of the duo's first major hit, "The Sound of Silence". Simon & Garfunkel were one of the bestselling music groups of the 1960s and became counterculture icons of the decade's social revolution, alongside artists such as the Beatles, the Beach Boys, and Bob Dylan. Simon & Garfunkel won 10 Grammy Awards and were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1990. Richie Unterberger described them as "the most successful folk-rock duo of the 1960s" and one of the most popular artists from the decade. They are among the best-selling music artists, having sold more than 100 million records.
