Released in 1964, this collaboration arrived at the precise moment bossa nova was crossing over from Brazilian cultural phenomenon to American obsession, and it won the Grammy for Album of the Year, a nearly unprecedented honor for a jazz record. Astrud Gilberto's unassuming debut vocal on "The Girl from Ipanema" became one of the most recognizable voices in twentieth-century popular music, despite her never having recorded professionally before that session.

One of the biggest-selling jazz albums of all time, not to mention bossa nova's finest moment, Getz/Gilberto trumped Jazz Samba by bringing two of bossa nova's greatest innovators - guitarist/singer João Gilberto and composer/pianist Antonio Carlos Jobim - to New York to record with Stan Getz. The results were magic. On 180 gram vinyl.
