Released in 1980, *Remain in Light* marked the peak of Talking Heads' collaboration with Brian Eno and their deepest dive into West African polyrhythms, funk, and layered tape experimentation. David Byrne and the band essentially dissolved the traditional rock group structure, building songs from interlocking grooves that owed as much to Fela Kuti as to CBGB. Cuts like "Once in a Lifetime" and "The Great Curve" still sound like transmissions from some parallel musical universe nobody else found.
