Lou Reed, John Cale, Sterling Morrison, and Moe Tucker recorded this debut in 1966 under Andy Warhol's patronage, with Nico's deadpan presence anchoring three of its most haunting tracks. Almost nobody bought it at the time, but as the old saying goes, everyone who did started a band. Few records have cast a longer shadow over the last half century of rock music.
