Released in 1981 at the peak of the band's early commercial momentum, Hard Promises came out of a genuinely contentious battle with MCA Records over list pricing, with Petty threatening to title the album "The Party's Over" if the label raised the retail price. He won. That kind of stubborn, fan-first principle ran straight through the grooves, and the songs delivered on it.

Hard Promises is the fourth album by Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers. It is RIAA certified platinum and features the singles The Waiting and A Woman In Love (It's Not Me). The album reached #5 on the Billboard 200 and features guest vocals from Stevie Nicks of Fleetwood Mac on the duet, Insider. Pressed on 180G vinyl.
