Tres Hombres was the record that put ZZ Top on the map nationally, released in 1973 and fueled by "La Grange," the boogie-blues freight train built on a John Lee Hooker riff that became one of the most recognizable album closers in rock history. Billy Gibbons, Dusty Hill, and Frank Beard recorded it on a shoestring, and the rawness shows in the best possible way, a Texas trio playing like they had something to prove.
