Bradford Cox has described *Halcyon Digest* as an album about memory, loss, and the way the past distorts itself over time, themes that hit differently knowing the turbulent path Deerhunter had already walked to get here. Recorded in Athens, the album marked a crystallizing moment for Cox and Lockett Pundt as songwriters, with Pundt's "Desire Lines" standing as one of the great slow-burn guitar pieces of its era.

Halcyon Digest is Deerhunter's fourth album and their first to be released on 4AD worldwide. The album was recorded in at Chase Park Transduction Studios in Deerhunter's hometown of Athens, GA with the band self-producing and Ben Allen enlisted to mix it (he also worked on Animal Collective's Merriweather Post Pavillion).
