Released in early 1960, *Giant Steps* marked the moment Coltrane unveiled his theory of rapidly cycling chord substitutions, what came to be known as "Coltrane changes," a harmonic language so advanced it sent other musicians scrambling to the woodshed. The title track and "Countdown" essentially rewrote the rulebook for chord progressions, while "Naima," dedicated to his first wife, showed the full emotional range of a musician operating at the absolute peak of his powers.

Trane's adventurous 1960 release, the first to feature solely his own compositions. Remastered from the original tapes, this landmark of modern jazz is further enhanced with 4 alternate takes. Includes the title track; Cousin Mary; Countdown; Spiral; Syeeda's Flute Song; Naima, and Mr. P.C.
