Product Details

Hearing *Otis Blue* in mono is hearing it the way Stax and Atlantic intended, the mix locked into a single focused channel the way most listeners first encountered it in 1965. Redding was 23 years old when he cut these sessions, and the emotional authority he commands throughout remains one of the more astonishing things in American music. This pressing, sourced directly from the original tapes, puts you as close as possible to what happened in that Memphis studio.

Recorded almost entirely in a single day, Otis Blue/Otis Redding Sings Soul delivers some of the strongest soul renditions ever put to tape. This includes the Redding original "I've Been Loving You Too Long", a cover of the Rolling Stones' "Satisfaction", and an early recording of "Respect", which was later made popular by Aretha Franklin. Considered by critics to be the definitive soul album of it's period, Otis Blue has been ranked one of Rolling Stone Magazine's 'Greatest Albums of All Time' as well as Time Magazine's 'All-Time 100 Greatest Albums'. In celebration of Black Music Month, this album has been cut from the original tapes by Chris Bellman at Bernie Grundman Mastering and is pressed locally on 180 gram premium-quality vinyl at Fidelity Record Pressing's brand new plant in Oxnard, California as part of Rhino's new Rhino Reserve line.
