Hearing Simpson's catalog stripped back to fiddle, banjo, and mandolin reveals just how deeply rooted in Kentucky tradition his songwriting always was, even when buried under synthesizers and distortion.

Since breaking through in 2014 with his Grammy nominated Metamodern Sounds in Country Music album, Sturgill Simpson has established himself as one of the most daring and most acclaimed artists of our time. His music stretches across genres and styles, from the psychedelic soul of 2016's A Sailor’s Guide To Earth (Grammy nominated for Album of the Year and winner for Best Country Album) to the fuzzed-out rock attack of Sound & Fury in 2019. Now Simpson returns to the music of his native Kentucky with his first bluegrass project, Cuttin’ Grass - Vol. 1 (The Butcher Shoppe Sessions). A true "mixtape for the fans", as Sturgill calls it, sees him reimagining songs from across his catalogue backed by some of Nashville's finest acoustic virtuosos.

Tracklist

Side A

1. All Around You

2. All The Pretty Colors

3. Breakers Roar

4. I Don't Mind

5. I Wonder

Side B

1. Just Let Go

2. Life Ain't Fair And The World Is Mean

3. A Little Light

4. Life Of Sin

5. Long White Line

Side C

1. Living The Dream

2. Old King Coal

3. Railroad Of Sin

4. Sitting Here Without You

5. Sometimes Wine

Side D

1. The Storm

2. Time After All

3. Turtles All The Way Down

4. Voices

5. Water In A Well

UPC: 787790456285
Label: High Top Mountain
Release Date: 12.11.20
Format: LP Vinyl

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/1041/7172/files/packshot-sturgill-simpson-cuttin-grass-vol-1-the-butcher-shoppe-sessions-lp-vinyl-vinyl-lp-relix.jpg?v=1778677968
