Gregg Allman - August 2017 Relix Issue
The August 2017 Relix issue celebrates the life of Gregg Allman. On May 27, 2017, Gregg Allman, the Allman Brothers Band’s legendary singer, songwriter and organist, passed away after years of health struggles and decades of hard living on the road. Allman will be remembered as an American icon—a tried- and-true blues vocalist who, even in his 20s, sang with the perspective of a veteran troubadour and grew old long before his time. In this special edition of Relix, we celebrate the Midnight Rider through personal reflections by longtime ABB documentarians John Lynskey, Alan Paul and Dino Perrucci, as well as Allman’s musical collaborators like Warren Haynes, Derek Trucks, Marc Quiñones, Jimmy Herring, Oteil Burbridge, Chuck Leavell and Jack Pearson. We also take a look at Allman’s final album, the Don Was-produced Southern Blood.
This issue also contains additional articles and interviews with Jaimoe, Damian Marley, Father John Misty, Glass Animals, Gary Clark Jr., Benjamin Booker, Hamilton Leithauser, (Sunny) Alex G, Dan Auerbach, Kevin Morby, Eric D. Johnson, Ryan Miller, Sam Cohen, Courtney Jaye, a deep dive into Jerry Garcia’s early bluegrass years, Baio, Morning Teleportation, Nightlands, North Mississippi Allstars’ Luther Dickinson, Yonder Mountain String Band and more.
