Recorded in February 1966, this Town Hall concert caught Evans at a moment of profound personal loss, and that grief is audible in every phrase. The solo suite at the center of the set stands among the most emotionally raw performances of his career, a pianist communing with an instrument in a way that few concert recordings capture. The Verve Acoustic Sounds reissue restores the full warmth of the original analog source, making the dynamic range of a live hall feel genuinely present.

From Bill Evans' first-ever performance at a concert hall in New York City comes. At Town Hall, Volume One. Featuring the sensitive accompaniment of Chuck Israels on bass and Arnold Wise on drums. Included is a 13-minute solo suite dedicated to the memory of Bill's father who had only recently passed at the time of the recording. Verve Acoustic Sounds Series features transfers from analog tapes and remastered on 180-gram vinyl in deluxe gatefold packaging.
