Bobby Timmons had already made his mark as a sideman with Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers and Cannonball Adderley before stepping to the front, and his compositional voice was unmistakable from the start. His signature blend of gospel-rooted blues feeling and hard bop swing, sometimes called "soul jazz," ran through everything he touched, and this debut as leader is where that sensibility crystallized on its own terms.

American Jazz pianist Bobby Timmons originally released This Here Is Bobby Timmons as his debut album as leader in 1960 on the Riverside label. Containing 9 hard bop cuts the album features Sam Cobb on bass and Jimmy Cobb on drums and is produced by Orrin Keepnews. This new edition of the album is released as part of the OJC Series on 180-gram vinyl pressed at RTI with all-analog mastering from the original tapes at Cohearent Audio and a Stoughton Tip-On Jacket.
