Liner Notes

The pivot captured on *Workingman's Dead* didn't happen in a vacuum. Crosby, Stills & Nash's vocal harmonies were a direct influence on how the Dead approached their own three- and four-part singing here, and the result reshaped what a San Francisco rock band could sound like. Songs like "Casey Jones" and "Uncle John's Band" became cornerstones of the live canon, played hundreds of times over across the decades that followed.

Digitally remastered edition. Workingman's Dead is the fourth Grateful Dead studio album. It was recorded in February 1970 and originally released on June 14, 1970. The album and it's studio follow-up, American Beauty, were recorded back-to-back using a similar style, eschewing the psychedelic experimentation of previous albums in favor of Jerry Garcia and Robert Hunter's Americana-styled songcraft.
