Thirty-plus years into their run, Leftover Salmon remains one of the most road-hardened bands in the jam and bluegrass worlds, a Boulder outfit that helped invent "polyethnic Cajun slamgrass" before that phrase meant anything to anyone. Grass Roots finds them stripping back to the songs that shaped them, a natural move for a band whose reverence for American roots music has always been as genuine as their reputation for turning festival fields sideways.
Known for their exhilarating live shows and musicianship as well as their eclectic musical tastes, Leftover Salmon has been one of Colorado's most beloved musical exports, picking up where bands like Little Feat, the Band and The Grateful Dead left off and distilling it into their own potent brew of bluegrass, rock 'n' roll, folk, Cajun, soul, zydeco and jazz and blues.
