Alligator Records was founded in Chicago in 1971 by Bruce Iglauer, who started the label specifically to record Hound Dog Taylor because no one else would. What followed was five decades of uncompromising electric blues that kept the music raw, regional, and alive at a time when the mainstream wasn't paying attention. This collection traces that lineage from the South Side to the swamps to the Texas roadhouses, making the case that no independent label has done more to document American blues in the modern era.
